Yep Fabianski was at fault for the pen.
Didn't even try to win the ball or stay on his feet, narrow the angle and save the shot, just rushed out and took out the attacker.

How many goals has our only striker scored all season.
What is it 8?

As I said these are the games like Brentford too when we look back at the end of the season after narrowly missing out on Europe, that cost us.

Only ourselves to blame for showing zero ambition in January and zero common sense.

daveyg please stop trying to compare us with Rangers they have 4 big league games a season and however the cup draws pan out a few more as only Celtic offers any sort of serious challenge. They come back from Europa games practically in a 3rd round of the FA Cup level of difficulty…..this was the first challenge they’ve had…..

It’s an improvement from our last Sunday game after euro football.

Let’s hope we continue to improve and get the 3 points next time

You're wrong about the Arsenal game. It's 16.30 on the Sunday 1st May. It's Frankfurt that actually play on the Monday 19.30. But they'll probably rest the 1st XI.
Like I mentioned in my earlier post it's now a mental equation. Moyes has done well to establish a winning metantality in Europe in it's the PL where he falls down. His own mentality is questionable in the PL too. Rangers can do it with a poorer team than us.Not enough rotation, subs or youngsters bursting on the scene.
Still I can see Arsenal giving us a bit of hope for 6th
I don't want to see MU or Spurs in CL alongside us but's it's gonna happen now. Arsenal have Chelsea and Man Utd before they play us.
God knows what line up we will have against Chelsea.

Top 6 is pretty much over IMO, we were not bad against Burnley but not at the level we have been when playing in the Europa, you can just feel it’s the Europa games we rise for the occasion now, think we will finish 7th or 8th.

We also have the Arsenal game in between the 2 Europa legs and it’s on the Monday not the Sunday! Even if we get a resounding win in the first leg (which I think we will need) I don’t think we will get much from Arsenal, can see mentally the players will either have one eye on the final or one eye on the away leg with a day less rest between games.

Just reading the report about Rangers win against Celtic. They had 120 mins of action on Thursday and again yesterday. Ok it was against Celtic and a semi final but still they were spot mentally and physically right to the end.
I watched the extended highlights again. I love Antonio he is a basic guy who loves his roots from NL but some of his chances he took were like training ground misses. A mental attitude that you can get away with on the training pitch but not in an actual game. His last miss was terrible, should of buried it or passed to Bowen.
Another point if Fabianski was in their goal we would of won. Fine margins.Pope is just a better keeper.
Hopefully Burnley go down and we put an offer in. That and Cornet too.We need someone with pace down the left.

All eggs in the Euro basket now. The league has gone due to our pitiful record at home against lower half sides. That seriously needs to be sorted next season, everyone knows that a league campaign is built around solid home form, but our home record is nothing short of a disgrace.

Agree Fab was weak with the pen, he came out and gave away the pen as a matter of course, like he was opening a door for the fella.

Did Moyes himself not admit that he plenty of money avail to him in Jan !

Been out since the end of the game but it was clear to me and has been all season we dont quite have the qualities to break down and beat certain sides in certain moments. Today was an example of that. We needed to hit the spot with some goal attempts and failed.

I think they were more mentally tired than physically and thats where you need squad depth and quality.

I wasnt upset at the end just frustrated and wished the players a decent few days rest.

I really hope we make the Euro final!

gph Tevez said that he wanted West Ham to be his last club and help us to win a trophy...seems Moyes didn't take the hint!

I think with Areola in goal today we don't concede the goal or the penalty. I think he at least punches the cross and would have been off his line sweeping up for the pen.

Not saying he's better than Fab but I would have fancied him to do better in those today.

That's where we miss Ogbonna actually. He really did demonstrate during the no crowds period how much he talked during the matches. Think it rubbed off on rice too if I remember correctly. Unfortunately that seems to have disappeared once oggy got broke.

It's quite evident that fabianski doesn't communicate well with the 4 in front of him. The whole team needs to be more vocal.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Burnley - Official Match Thread
Agree Master.

He lived up to the “Flapianski” tag but also notice Soucek getting out jumped by Weghorst. Fab is a great shop stopper but has never been the most commanding on crosses and set pieces.

Areola has had his moments too but seems more commanding with anything in the air and seems better at communicating with his defenders? Probably we are at the tipping point where Fab becomes a number 2 but that will probably only result from an injury as Moyes is a big Fab fan.

It's as if some of you could never enjoy a season. Games are not played on paper and this is by a distance the most competitive league in the world.

It's been a great two years and things are looking good for the future.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Burnley - Official Match Thread
Pope stopped us from winning the game. 3 Top drawer saves. After the injury disruption and conceding I was surprised we got a point. Burnley sat back and made it hard to create much. They have frustrated a lot of teams and drawn a lot of games. They don’t win many which is why they are down in the bottom 4 this season.

Lots of ( IMO ) harsh, unbalanced criticism of the team and individual players. Antonio is not a top class finisher and never been but like all the players he gave 100%. Johnson was loose with his passing at times but also put in some decent crosses and was not “shit” or “rubbish” IMO. Coufal would likely have struggled with Cornets pace more as he is slower.

Vlasic did ok especially before the injury to Westwood and Benrahma did not do any better as some suggested he would.

Perspective and balance needed. We have a small squad in terms of quality. There are few options you look at on the bench that can do any better. Fornals coming on earlier may have been the better choice.

Some suggest it’s all down to Moyes we did not get anyone in Jan but are we certain? Underbidding and late bids would be Sullivan, Brady etc. Could just as likely be them and let’s be honest they have form:

No lack of effort yet again today and while we should have won based on chances it was a game we could easily have lost too.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Burnley - Official Match Thread
As good as Pope is we still missed too many chances.
It's games like this and Brentford at home where we'll be looking back on at the end of the season after missing out on a European place be it CL or EL, by a point or or 3

Stupid over reliance on Antonio and too thin a squad will cost us. Said it at the end of the Jan window.
